Penthouse Penthouse is coming together!!

Yesterday John and I were able to catch of few hours of sun at the beach, and it was great to just relax for a little.  We’ve been so busy trying to get our apartment complete, we haven’t taken time for a beach day in a while!

John and I had a really busy past week getting nearly completely settled into the Penthouse Penthouse!  We finally found a couch(!!!) – it’s perfect, gray, leather and wasn’t too expensive.  Really brings the room together!  We bought some other big ticket items, too, like some decorations, the rug, and John’s DJ stand.  The apartment finally feels like home and we’re pretty much done spending money, which is a relief! We bought a really cute bistro set on clearance for only $130, so we’ve been sitting on our balcony a lot more now.  It’s amazing to be able to eat every meal outside if we wanted to, and we can’t get over how amazing the view is!  Anyways, hope you enjoy these pics of the past week and the photos of our apartment as it starts coming together!

TV Stand DIY

Hello everyone!  I know you've all been desperately waiting to see this blog post, where we turned a plain, boring Ikea Expedit shelving unit into something spectacular!!

Here's how we did it:
We started out by sanding the shelving unit down, inside the cubes and out.  We wanted to make sure the primer and paint was going to stick well.

Next came the primer - inside corners first!

More Primer, and the next step is where it gets exciting!

First coat of paint, woooo

Starting to look good!

Me hard at work painting the second coat!

After the second coat of paint, we added legs!  Looks sharp, but not done yet!

We purchased white inserts from Ikea.  Here's John hard at work with the insert installation!

Aaaaand, the final product!!!  Looks so amazing!

Ta-da!

And it's hard to tell from the pic, but now we have an accent piece that is the same exact color as our apartment's accent wall!  Wooohooo DIY projects are the best!

Walk to Balboa

Yesterday John and I took a break from working on our apartment to explore our new neighborhood.  We were both ecstatic when the walk from our apartment to Balboa took less than 15 minutes!  Here are some shots of our walk through Balboa on yet another gorgeous Sunday afternoon in San Diego!

The Spreckels Organ was open!

John's favorite spot in the park - the botanical garden!

Our apartment building!  Our balcony is the top floor, second one in from the left!

We can't get enough of the view from our balcony!  Check out those mountains!
