Hodad's and the Gaslamp

Last night we hung out with Tim and Ed downtown.  We started off our evening with a very filling meal of Hodad's, walked around the Gaslamp, and got icecream.  It was a really fun night spent with great company.  Tim and Ed are heading home tomorrow, but we were able to have a great visit with them this past week!

Visit with Tim and Ed

Our friend Tim Maleck and his friend Ed have been in San Diego this past week!  We met up with them on Friday to go out in Pacific Beach, and hung out over the weekend, as well!  On Sunday we went to Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Blue Water Market and Grill.  Since I've written about all those three spots before, I'll keep this brief and you can see how much fun we had from the pictures!  We're hanging out with them again tonight to give them a tour of downtown and the Gaslamp!

Events at DT

This week has been super crazy for me, as we had two huge back-to-back events at DT!  Since one of my duties is event planning, you can imagine it was a crazy week for me.

Our first event was Tuesday, and we had Nir Eyal fly in from San Francisco to conduct a workshop on designing user engagement and habits.  We had quite a turnout - from our team here at DT and also individuals from around the area - we even had a few guests who traveled from LA for the workshop!  It was a really interesting night and a great opportunity for learning.

On Wednesday we had another successful DT event - a UX Speakeasy Meetup!  UX Speakeay is a group that meets once a month at different venues around San Diego.  They had never treated their meetup as an actual speakeasy so we decided to go ahead and do it!  We secretly decorated a back conference room so that it was 1920's style, complete with our very own flapper bartender, low lighting, jazz music, fireplace youtube video, and 1920's themed cocktails!  Our CEO, Chuck Longanecker, spoke about creating design culture, while Pete and David from I.D.E.A. District shared their vision of creating a design community in downtown San Diego.  It was a great night of networking, learning, and drinking.

On Thursday during lunch, Jessica, Amanda, and I (girls I work with) went to a restaurant called the Knotty Barrel for some food and a game of Shuffleboard.  It was a blast!

Labor Day Weekend!

John and I had a really fun and busy last week, and had a very enjoyable Labor Day Weekend.  Now that we’re finally settled in our apartment, John and I were able to catch up with a lot of friends that we hadn’t seen while in the process of moving to our permanent apartment.

This past Wednesday we got together with our friends Caitlyn and James.  We met up at our apartment so they could see our new digs, and then ate at an Irish pub just a few blocks from our apartment.  We had a lot of fun catching up!  On Thursday night John and I had Jed and Jamile over for dinner at the Penthouse Penthouse.  We ate a delicious dinner and shared great conversation!  Friday John and I had more friends over (it was a very social week!), and enjoyed a relaxing night of Cards Against Humanity and some drinks.  We had a great time with John, Heather, and Amanda.

On Saturday John and I spent a much needed relaxing day at the beach.  This past week was so busy for me at work because tomorrow and Wednesday DT is having back-to-back events that I’ve been planning for the past few weeks.  The beach was gorgeous, and it was surprisingly hot for San Diego weather.  When we were leaving the beach, I was like “Oooh, I could really go for some clams right now,” and John loved the idea, suggesting one of our favorite fish markets, Blue Water Market and Grill.  We headed over there on the way home and bought double the amount that the associate suggested when I asked him how much to buy for “two very hungry people” – 4 pounds.  We steamed 2 lbs in water for dipping into lemon butter, and the other half I steamed in garlic, butter, and white wine.  We whipped up some rice and a salad to accompany our clams, and it was a delicious little feast!

I thought this Jeep was so "California"

Mmm Sooo Good!

Sunday morning John and I went to our friend Eryka’s hot yoga class.  It was the first time either of us had tried hot yoga, and we both ended up really enjoying it!  I think I sweat more than I have in my entire life!  It was a really great time though, such a refreshing work out!  After Eryka’s class, her and her boyfriend Nate, went out to brunch with John and I.  (Nate and I work together at DT and Eryka teaches yoga for DT twice a month).  We had a great time at brunch and tried out a new place called True Food.  After Brunch, John and I headed to DT with Nate to hang some artwork for the upcoming events.  The rest of Sunday afternoon was spent cleaning, getting stuff done, and relaxing.

Today I was able to read for several hours while John practiced DJing, and around lunchtime we headed to the B Street Pier in downtown San Diego to check out the sand sculpting contest.  The sculptures were so cool!  We had an amazing food truck lunch of duck confit grilled cheese and truffle fries, and spent the afternoon checking out the sculptures and walking along the harbor.  We love that we’re able to walk to so many spots around San Diego!

I’ll try and post again soon!
